One of the biggest complaints of the Nexus 5's predecessor, the Nexus 4, was of the camera. Quite frankly, the Nexus 4's camera was mediocre at best and thus there's been a lot of talk about the Nexus 5's camera and just how much an improvement the 8 megapixel, optical image stabilization shooter brings. One thing Google did was change the image sensor from a 1/4" sensor to a 1/3.2" sensor which should allow it to gather more light and thus have better low light performance. With such quality shooters as the HTC One and Galaxy S4 out there as competition how does the N5 stack up? Well SAF of SuperSafTV has done a nice camera comparison between the current best selling Android device, the Galaxy S4, which is known as having one of the best cameras out right now in a high end smartphone and our new Nexus.
SAF put the Nexus 5 and S4 up side by side in a number of different shooting situations including trying out the new HDR mode on the Nexus 5, indoor and outdoor shots and of course video. In the end they come out quite close in many areas and the fact that the Nexus 5 is almost half the price of the Galaxy S4 off contract really shows how great a deal the Nexus 5 is. Take a look at the video yourself...I think you'll be fairly impressed. While the S4 does have a higher resolution camera, the Nexus 5 generally has better color reproduction and sharpness. It puts up a good fight, does itself proud and I'm happy to say that yes, we finally have a Nexus phone with a more than capable camera for both stills and video.
So what do you think of the Nexus 5 camera and how it compares to the S4? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments!
