Google Kills 'Nexus' Brand, Introduces 'Pixel'
« on: October 05, 2016, 04:05:26 PM »

RIP Nexus.  Yes, that's right.  According to several online sources that spoke with Google representatives the Nexus brand, best known for super affordable pure Android phones that served as benchmarks for the Android platform is being put to rest.   At an epic unveiling yesterday in northern california, Google introduced its much rumored new phones, the Pixel and Pixel XL.  These two devices are 'made by Google'.  What that means is designed by the company as technically the hardware is manufactured by others just as Apple's phones are manufactured by others.  With the Pixel branding, Google has ended its Nexus journey which began with the Nexus 1 and most recently saw the launch of the Nexus 5x and Nexus 6p.

The new phones are nice for sure and pick up where the last Nexus devices left off.  The specs...and pricing of these new Pixel phones is impressive.  Both run on the 2.15GHz + 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 and will come in either 32GB or 128GB versions. Both also include what the company is calling the best smartphone camera ever...a 12.3 megapixel model sporting a large sensor and 4K video capture.  The smaller 5 inch 'Pixel' with have a 1920 x 1080 display at 441PPI and have a 2,770mAh battery while the larger 'Pixel XL' features a larger 5.5 inch 2560 x 1440 534 PPI display and a 3,450mAh battery.    Both will run Android 7.1 Nougat at launch and come without the bloatware usually seen in top line smartphones by other competing manufacturers. Pricing begins at a hefty $649 for the Pixel model and $769 for the larger model.

We want to thank everyone that has been a member of this forum and we will be leaving it up for at least the next year so there's no need to worry...all the valuable info will stay right here.  But if you do plan on upgrading to the Pixel or Pixel XL phones we have started a brand new forum at http://googlepixelforum.com and we encourage you to join us over there as we start this new journey with the first phones that were actually designed 'in-house' by google, rather than outsourced to another company.
